Galesburg Register Mail Endorses Sal Garza For Mayor

The city needs an aggressive mayor, who is well versed in economic development and has plenty of ideas about how to move the city forward. Garza is sharp, enthusiastic, ambitious and tireless — these qualities should serve him in office. Of all the candidates he’s the one who most seems ready to respond with the sense of urgency required. The city was already reeling from a loss of more than 2,000 factory jobs from 2003 to 2005 when the national economic crisis struck in 2008. Unemployment here reached 9.4 percent in February.

Galesburg is looking for a way forward, and we think Garza has the fortitude to advance the city despite the inevitable setbacks and disagreements that will occur along the way.
Garza also knows the city’s past, which provides an important context for projecting our future.
